Welcome to Driftwood Cemetery, a place steeped in history and reverence, located in the heart of Driftwood, Texas. Our cemetery, nestled beside the Driftwood Community Church, stands as a sacred tribute to the memory of those who have played a significant role in shaping our community and our nation.

A Legacy of Faith and Heritage

Our cemetery's roots can be traced back to the establishment of the Driftwood Methodist Episcopal Church South in 1884. The church, constructed on two acres of land generously provided by David L. and Mattie Elizabeth Dorroh, has been a focal point of spiritual life in Driftwood for nearly 150 years.

In that same year, the Driftwood Cemetery was founded, extending as a hallowed ground just south of the sanctuary.

Before our cemetery's inception, another burial ground, known as the old community cemetery, was established in the 1870s, approximately a mile north of this location. As a testament to the enduring bond between the community and its history, several early settlers and pioneers from the old graveyard were respectfully reinterred here, at the newly established Driftwood Cemetery.

Honoring Those Who Shaped Our Community

Driftwood Cemetery serves as a final resting place for many remarkable individuals who have left an indelible mark on our community. Among those interred here are the original trustees of the Driftwood Methodist Church, who played pivotal roles in establishing this sacred ground. James Thomas Eckols, Thomas Martin, and Reverend John Alexander Garrison, eternally rest among those they served and cared for.

A Tribute to Our Heroes

Driftwood Cemetery proudly hosts a Veterans Memorial that honors the courage and commitment of at least eighty-seven veterans, serving as a lasting symbol of their dedication to our great nation.
